Why didn't Madara and Izuna just trade eyes?

From the way I see it, you implant the eyes into your socket, one does not simply fuse eyes. I'm thinking this is a plothole or it needs to be further looked at, but I doubt they'll fully explain it since it is all about the Rinnegan now.

they cant because they ms are fused together 2ms+2ms=2EMS but i dont think it fused because the monster thingy that showed when itachi was fighting sasuke it had 2 eye holes left out and 1 covered by his normal ms see this is madara's

Dude, this is ****ing cartoon. How did goten and trunks fuse? How does a colossal beast probably hundreds of feet tall fit into someone's stomach? I used to think like you, about logic shit. But if you worry about that too much you might as well just quit reading the manga.

I don't think Izuna gave them up willingly, Madara probably killed him in some sly way coz battle was off the table, you know, blind man vs mangekyou sharingan:shrug:, and since they were the first to get mangekyou they didn't know it would actually work let alone get EMS. As for Itachi and Sasuke, Itachi had planned on making Sasuke a heroe of Konoha and have him awaken mangekyou through his death so trade wasn't an option since you BOTH have to have mangekyou etcU_U

The way i understand it is, 2 eyes are embedded into another pair of eyes. Then that creates ems. Both pair of eyes are "deleted" to create new, powerful eyes that can never go blind and can upgrade to Rinnegan.

This^ you don't get rid of your eyes and implant someone else's to get EMS. They combine, that is why the pattern changes for the sharingan.

If the OP's thoughts were correct, then Sasuke would just have Itachi's MS pattern and Madara would have Izuna's.
