Why didn't Madara and Izuna just trade eyes?

I have been thinking about this, if Izuna gave his eyes to Madara, why didn't he then take Madara's previous eyes, and both end with EMS?

Same for Itachi and Sasuke?

The way i understand it is, 2 eyes are embedded into another pair of eyes. Then that creates ems. Both pair of eyes are "deleted" to create new, powerful eyes that can never go blind and can upgrade to Rinnegan.

To get EMS you must fuse uchiha eye's together... You dont take out you'r eyes and place in another Uchiha's eyes if thats what you'r thinking.

And If I am not mistaken Madara was blind so switching eye's with Izuna would still leave Izuna blind.
