On the contrary, Lee can use it to heal himself if he used the gates to counteract the drawbacks so that he wouldnt be out of the fight too soon.

Its probably part of the second or thrid step in the plan to attack madara directly and only physical attacks work on him, so who better to attack madara then Lee/Guy, super powerful taijutsu users who could stay in gates mode indefinitely while in the cloak?

actually the gates do use chakra, the only reason why kisame didnt absorb hirudora was because it was an incredibly fast punch and not ninjutsu
