Itachi couldn't beat him. He had no reason to believe he could beat him.

But it's not as if Itachi was scared of Obito or anything, he was just being smart avoiding him.

No, I don't think you understand the manga through your itachi bias goggles buddy, they were both wary of each other because they both had their own plans and were both not smart enough to go around picking fights. Obito decided to ruin Itachi's plan. If he didn't miraculously get revived by edo tensei then his plan would've failed right there and then and Itachi would've died in vain. The man who could ruin his plan... he would've obviously sought out Obito to stop him from doing so, he didn't. What does this say.
