IMO he had a motivation to cheat via video game and chunnin exam. His game since he want to beat it, and the exam to impress/get recognition from his pops. In this however, he probably felt like he would win, yet seeing the old ladies cards reassured him that this wouldn't be fair and didn't feel the need to continue it.

Your not going to get an answer except some members trying to tell you he didn't really cheat. When that happens look at it like this example, if I give somebody a gun to shoot somebody and they do it, it doesn't mean he really shot them. :lmao:
Even though he knows its prohibited under the rules/laws to do so. Thats the best simultude of their example.

The reason Boruto doesn't cheat here is because SP are full of bs they've kind of ruined Boruto's character.

He had more than enough reason to cheat and that was Himawari. The whole reason he was their was to get Himawari a gift he forgot to get her and didn't want to hurt her. I don't buy Boruto caring if it's fair or not because the same could be argued about any other situation he cheated in.

Ps. The wrong Hyuga died.

What people fail to understand Boruto always had this righteousness side to him

& it’s not that he ever likes to cheat people, he just didn’t like to put in unnecessary work most of the time. With the lady that cheat wasn’t a shortcut, it was just taking advantage. Also Boruto was confident in his shinobi bout skills probably.

With the video game it was a shortcut instead of grinding for exp

With the kote device he felt pressured to win and impress his dad & lacked confidence in himself. Especially after almost giving up so easy in the 1st test. & this is just speculation but I imagine some of the other village genin might intimidate him as well. Like Shinki.

That’s just my take on it anyways

Yall misunderstand boruto.
Its not that he likes cheating.
He just doesn't like grinding.

He's the type to buy loot crates cuz he doesnt wanna play a game for 20 hrs to get small benefits.

I actually think that sometime between the academy graduation and the chunin exams he had a nasty villain run in or something that made him think "be the best no matter what it takes"

I agree it contradicted his pre established character, but there is the chance he has some type of negative development that causes him to change his perspective on his opinion of "cheating".

Someone also made the point "He never thought cheating was cool, he just doesn't like to grind". That very well could be the case, as we know from his description and character, he is lazy and doesn't push himself until after the boruto movie. He could be using the jutsu device because it is convenient, and he doesn't consider it cheating, but then he learns what the meaning of the chunk exams were, and he understands why using your OWN strength was important, even if sasuke and naruto contradict themselves right after the ****ing movie......................

Bad enough the only person to agree with their flip flop opinion on the device is AO, a secret member of Kara... I REALLY hope those devices don't become mainstream or accepted in fights.

The better question is why don't you and salamander understand Boruto's whole conflict?

As you have stated, we know that Boruto has cheated in 2 areas:

1. Videogames
2. Chunin exams

Now let me address number 1 since that one is quick and easy:

Cheat codes aren't frowned upon by the gaming community at large when you're just casually playing videogames. Unless it's something like a tournament or competitive setting, then you can use cheat codes all you want. It is not a major thing. In fact, you can even buy actual cheat code devices, such as action replays, at mainstream videogame stores (like GameStop).

Now to number 2:

It is true that, up until the Momoshiki incident, Boruto was lazy and not into putting effort into things. Nobody can deny that. However, that issue was a secondary issue with him. The main conflict that the writers portrayed about Boruto was the fact that he hated the fact that Naruto didn't pay attention to him and his family.

In fact, Boruto says several lines in the movie such as:

(during narration) "...In short, he is the nanadaime (7th) hokage, but that is no excuse for him to ignore me"

(later, in Naruto's office after bear mission)
Boruto: "I've mastered fuuton, raiton and most recently suiton"
Naruto: "Konohamaru, what have you been teaching him?"
Boruto: "Don't blame my teacher! If you payed more attention to me..."

(when Naruto takes Boruto's headband)
Naruto: "There will be a lecture later"
Boruto: "Later?! Will you have time?! If you had just looked at me sooner..."

As you should hopefully be able to see, he was desperate for Naruto's attention.

That is why he cheated in the chunin exams. He wanted to impress Naruto.

He didn't cheat because he is a cheater in general. He cheated because he craved attention from Naruto, so you and salamander can stop acting as if his cheating in the movie means that he cheated in every aspect or facet of life!

The game of shinobi bout with the old lady wasn't nearly as important to him.

He cheated but it doesn't mean hes not skilled. He just was not serious at the time and had a last minute effort. He's not incapable but he did break a rule.

If he did not cheat he would not have been disqualified. That's an undeniable fact through and through.
