Card Captor Sakura, Sailor Moon, and DBZ got me into anime when I was younger. Even some Yu-Gi-Oh too. Naruto is what really got me into it as of late though.
Then, how does your interest in the art of manga/anime manifest itself? Would you like to draw/animate manga/anime pics/vids? Or is it only to adapt it into art which isn't much manga/anime related? Something else?

Man, I'm so regretting that I didn't think of watching DB now.. Well, reading it wasn't bad, but I bet moving pictures with music and voices etc. would've been awesome!I use to watch dragon ball in German as a kid. I remember my excitement after discovering dbz on.cartoon network. Goku becoming a ssj make me an anime freak
When I was little I watched shows like Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z and Pokemon, without realizing they were anime. I do remembering enjoying watching them though LOL
Anyway, when I was around fifteen, sixteen years old, a company in my country decided to translate a few popular manga series (Shaman King and Yu-Gi-Oh were their first experiment, followed by Naruto shortly afterwards) and my mum saw the volumes in the store and bought them because she thought I would find them interesting.
Which I did.
I got more and more interested in manga and bought more and more different series. I eventually had to switch over to English manga, not only because I like the English versions more, but also because 1) that company stopped translating and so I have to complete those series in English, 2) the English version was often further along in the serie and 3) there are a whole lot more series translated into English than into Dutch (and I refuse to read in German and French)
So yeah, from there my collection grew and is still growing ...
Ah, Naruto has done a good job bringing so many together!Card Captor Sakura, Sailor Moon, and DBZ got me into anime when I was younger. Even some Yu-Gi-Oh too. Naruto is what really got me into it as of late though.
Well , I used to draw wayback in HS. Nope. I dont want to be a Mangaka, if that's what you wanted to know.
Well its my personal view about Anime and Manga...
I do believe that The Artist, the Creators. The mangakas it is their way of expressing their Ideas, Visualizing something in this Form..hence this is Art.

Did what? 8D
DBZ captivated me as a young 4 year old boy. Naruto picked up where DBZ left off in 2005.
Hmmm.. Yes, I didn't really think of them as anime either, just enjoyable series in need of my attention every morning.
Oh! Oh! That's practically what happened to me! Well, they were collected in the shonen jump magazine(Shaman King, Yu-Gi-Oh, Rurouni Kenshin, Naruto and lastly bleach), so that magazine became my hub for reading manga, until I realised there were pocket volumes for each series(the excitement!!)! My mother was the one to buy them for me seeing how my measly allowance was wasted on other things..
Hmmm, the Swedish translations are behind the English ones, so I go with English as well, but the Swedish ones weren't really that bad, they did a good job there!
So, a question; would you give up anime and manga for a 'normal' life?
Ah.. Memories, memories~Cry at the ending of Naruto part 1.
Being normal is overratedBut seriously now, what is a 'normal' life? To be honest there hasn't been much of a change between my pre manga period and my post manga period. Before I discovered manga, I read a lot of books and played Pokemon games (still do LOL). Now aside from books, I read a lot of manga as well.
So there hasn't been a real change *shrugs* But would I ever give up anime and manga for whatever reason? No, I wouldn't. I like it too much to give it up![]()
I hate people who think that reading anime or manga is nerdy. Its really not. I am normalish guy who is good at sports(cos that is generally what nerds are not good at). Anyway I watched DBZ on TV and Onepiece. Watched Naruto cos my brother was watching it and I thought it was good. Read others cos they were recommended to me. If I did not join the base OP and Naruto would be the only manga I read or would of probable ever read. Thank you NB
Oh please, isn't your definition of what a nerd is reliant on your reluctance of being recognized as one?
Yes, I did mention there being different types of immersions into this world as relative to each different individual, but that relevance also goes for perceptions of what a nerd is.
Compared to me or many others, you may think you're not a nerd, but if you ask my sister, you and I are nerds, both of us. I bet she's not the only one reasoning like so, as the views differ.
But hey, it's not wholly being a nerd unless you get the agreement from others, things you can chose to ignore and so on.
Now I'm not saying you're a nerd, you decide that, and I'm sorry if I came off as wanting to name every member of NB a nerd, the title was more of a way of grabbing attention of the ones whom could relate to the term, though I see there's more than one way to do that, thanks for sharing your view on it!
yup ur right. I dont wanna be called a nerd and dont think I am but other people would say I am. My sister thinks fairy tail is great but calls me a nerd for watching op and naruto. You just taught me something that I probably already knew but did not think about.
No, no, I'm actually sorry for putting it so bluntly, and glad you didn't take it too hard.
That's a good question. My first anime was DragonBall. I just kept tuning in to see what happenend. I didn't even know I was "hooked" at that time. It was different to see something that was created in another country. Plus, American cartoons were getting so, UGH! Next thing you know I'm watching various different anime and picking up manga on the side. Now, I'm an addict. I gotta have it and when I can't find anything new I watch or read old stuff until I hear of something interesting to look into. It's great, I know I'm kinda older and should give it up but I can't, no, I WON'T! I love it and am glad that it's around to entertain me in my time of need.

In my case, the country I come from doesn't have much cultural breakthrough when it comes to Japanese Manga. They inherited Toonami from USA, and subsequently I came to watch anime. Captain Tsubasa, Dragon Ball, Card Captor Sakura, Pokemon and such... But Cartoon Network's mortal enemy was Fox Kids, with Digimon, many, many other series.
I grew up locked inside a room from where I would never escape until I was 13. My only friends were the Manga I could read in the Internet, Anime in TV, Harry Potter books, music, movies and videogames. Those are the reason I speak English, and also the reason I am still alive and slightly healthier in the head.
I cherish Naruto because among all Manga, that was the one that truly showed me how not giving up is like. And also, showed me what true friends are like and how to find them, in a world where sometimes, friendship depends on money and privileges.
Ah, One Piece is one of those series with a brilliant story which, when you've read/watched enough of it, you most likely won't ever forget it. Hope you'll have a good experience reading/watching it!Well, my first anime was Dragon Ball/Dbz (when I was really young), after that I couldn´t care less about anime to be honest.
Then, 6/7 years ago a friend of mine recommended me Naruto, I had already watched one episode (Haku vs Sasuke - Naruto starts farting Kyubi chakra, etc) and I kinda enjoyed it.
Eventually got around to watch it from the beginning and it´s now something that I truly like to follow, to the point of joining an anime forum.
Other animes (and manga) I´ve watched since then - Bleach, Death Note, Basilisk and just started One Piece.
Like most, I watched Pokemon/Yugioh without knowing they were anime. Later on, I got into Naruto, Death Note, Meganman, and Soul Eater. I love Soul Eater's manga, Death Note's anime, Megaman's shows (some) and Naruto's either way. It was all based on just me finding it through people telling me about it. I got into it and ran with it. I'm a fan of those shows/mangas. However, I'm not an anime fan. I'm not into all kinds of anime because, honestly, Japan is really weird and too perverted with some shows. I don't like that. Anyways, I like to think of cartoons and anime as one in the same. I'm a fan of certain portons of that media that appeals to me.
So, why did I get into the ones I did (am currently) and still watch them today? I was introduced it by others, for the latter ones in my life. The emotional connection to Naruto keeps me interested and the beautiful artwork, interesting characters, awesome theme, and the division of spotlight is why I'm interested in Soul Eater.
But yeah, not an anime/manga nerd, but a nerd to the things I'm into nonetheless, so I'm a nerd to the animes I'm into, but not a anime nerd.
