Why did Sakura become a ninja ?

There was no reason for her to become a ninja. She never even cared about being one or having any goals of being stronger. Her only motivation for taking the exams and becoming a ninja was to be with Sasuke.

She would have been better off working at a bar and meeting guys that looked good looking to her.

When Naruto was a kid he knew that he wanted to be recognized and become Hokage.
When Sasuke was a kid he knew that he had a plan to kill his brother for what he did to his clan.
When Sakura was a kid she just went to the academy.

When Kakashi asked team 7 about their goals:
Naruto still said that he wanted to become Hokage.
Sasuke still wanted revenge for his clan.
Sakura wanted to be with and close to Sasuke.

If you have any sense then you can see what this means.

Anyone can go the academy and try to be a ninja. It still doesn't take away that she never had any real goals of wanting to become a ninja on her own to better herself. If her lust for Sasuke was more important than passing the exams than she was never fit to be a ninja. Period.

That is odd, because Kishimoto never shed any light on it. I believe, originally it was rivalry between Ino and herself. She wanted to outdo her in everything, and they both stopped being friends over Sasuke. Pathetic, both of them. To be very honest, do any of them have any reasons to be ninjas at all? The were members of a clan is not good enough logic for me, when they never had any personal motivation.

Ino wanted to excel because she wanted to win Sasuke over, Sakura had the same trouble, Hinata's sole world was Naruto ... who is left behind? Tenten didn't even have any development. She's just ... there. But in the end, Sakura accomplished the most, is the most intelligent, and proved to be infinitely useful in the war. That's all there is to it.

She wanted to be Sasuke wife from childhood that was Her definition of success and self worth back then. Hinata started out to improve Herself using Naruto as Her model and that lead to love but Sakura used Sasuke as Her ticket to fame to make Herself from a nobody to a somebody by marriage and association to the Uchiha Clan. In other words Sakura started out as a gold digger.
