Why did Rinbo: Hengoku (Limbo) not work on Naruto?

Looks like naruto has some degree of precognition - however, even he didnot seem to know what was going on almost as of someone pushed him out of the way-- what if nature actively serves to protect naruto? Kinda like the automatic ultimate defense that gaara has but on the sage of six paths level.
