Because he's power hungy and after a while he got to the point where he would do anything just to gain knowledge and power. That's what made him evil imo

I think it came down to a lot of things.

He already lost their parents at a young age, and soon realized how cruel life is after witnessing numerous deaths. It makes sense that he'd begin to study forbidden techniques even thought it was taboo; the fear of sudden death would be enough to overpower anyone's morality.

I expect that losing his chance to become Hokage pushed him over the edge. If he were to continue living within Konoha and lacking immortality techniques, he probably thought he'd end up dying on a mission like Nawaki or Dan. There was nothing left for him at the Hidden Leaf, so he left to pursue his own goals and remained spiteful of Hiruzen's choice.

There's no real known reason as to why Orochimaru is evil. All we know is that he's your typical power-hungry villain. We know that Orochimaru left the village because he could no longer conduct his research there after he was caught by Hiruzen. Orochimaru isn't exactly what you'd call evil, he simply seeks to defy age and death. He knew that one could never learn all the Jutsu in the world in the span of one lifetime, so he sought immortality to achieve his goal. The whole destruction of Konoha thing was all about revenge for not being picked as Hokage.

Um, no, that's not it at all.
If you remember his flashbacks you'd remember that Hiruzen commented that something was always wrong with Orochimaru.
His evil was because of his parents dying at a very young age and seeing the frailty of human life during war.

The whole destruction of Konoha thing was all about revenge for not being picked as Hokage.

That's untrue. The current reason is because he was bored. However, it's more than likely more than that.
