Why did Orochimaru kill Rasa?

Think about it. If the Invasion of Konoha had two Kage level ninja fighting, against old man Hiruzen, and his forces, then wouldn't that have been better than Oro going it alone?

Also I think the Sand and the Leaf were on peaceful agreements at that time but the difference was the Sand was manipulated by Oro so they broke their friendship with the Leaf. Even if Rasa was at Konoha I couldn't see them fighting each other unless Oro pulled up his devious tricks.

but my best guess would be to let gaara take the kage spot, so the 4ths gotta get wiped out of the story somehow
