Why did Orochimaru join the akatsuki ?

Why not join the Akatsuki when your a missing Ninja who is currently wanted... Plus he wanted an Uchiha and Akatsuki happened to have one of the few left

Besides the videogame version, the manga showed that he was after itachi's sharingan and he fled because itachi was too strong.
Adding insult over injury, Orochimaru had to dig up info on akatsuki for Danzo. After learning who the real leader is, he went by all means to avoid akatsuki's war. And Sasuke also took his toll on Orochimaru.
