Why did Orochimaru begin holding a grudge against the Leaf?

I doubt it was because Minato was selected for Hokage over him, but that may have been the reason. I think Jiraiya thought that's why he defected.


Is it possible he ended up like Sauce where Konoha was responsible for his parent's death?

Hopefully this will be addressed after the war, when we get the exposition and closure on the rest of the characters.

Should point out that there was a chopped out flashback of EMS Sasuke calling Orochimaru out about claiming he "attacked the Leaf on a whim" then followed up with questioning why he did it.

Users have been asking the most minuscule and simplest of things today. It was clear that he defected and resented hiruzen because he chose minato over him you saying that is not the case if just ridiculousness when the manga says it was the case.

He was doing experiments for more power and Hiruzen who had always thought of him as his favorite and was a shoe in for Hokage picked Minato. Its the exact same situation with The sage picking Ashura over Indra

He was picked over because Hiruzen saw darkness in him. It means he knows of his experiments and the bad stuff he has and had done. His obsessions on power and researches had made him exiled thus hindering his progress.

If a person has an obsession on something and another prohibits/stops that person on pursuing that obsession, he/she will be driven mad, if not already, and would plot to destroy who stand on his/her way. In Oros case, the Leaf.
