he was pissed off when Minato became Hokage, bcuz he was also a candidate, after that he left Konoha.

His main concern was to get immortal and to learn all ninjutsu, but in order to do that, he had to obtain the sharingan that would later evolve into rinnegan. And since rinnegan is associated with the Sage, that way, he could learn all the secrets of ninjutsu from the Sage itself somehow.
Remember that stone from Uchiha's temple. Well I bet it has pretty strong connections to the Sage and how he made all ninjutsu and stuff.

So if he had that, he would've had the ultimate weapon.

That's just my guess, of course!

Not to get off topic but if Kishi had allowed Orochimaru to use Sage Mode I think arguably he could probably have taken some of the characters strongest characters with ease. Don't flame me for this please lol I said arguably.

i thought oro did have some form of sage mode i thought thats what those marks around his eyes were to be honest and if he was a sagew and had ftg then he would make madara look like kiba lol
