I've always wondered this but almost all the episodes in Thriller bark had amazing animation. Even the Filler scenes.

However after Thriller Bark, we rarely get that same quality of animation. Even the Sabody Archipelago, Amazon Lily, Impel Down and Marineford overall had worse animation compared to Thriller Bark as a whole.

Then after timeskip, the animation quality dropped even more.

Am I the only one who thinks this?

It's strange, after the massive boom the One piece series got in 2011, I would at least expect the animation to improve.

Mind showing examples? I don't think so, after the TS the animation quality improved. It's just as right of now it's pretty inconsistent & it's censored a lot more.

It's a shame but I feel that Toei animation are milking the anime since it's so popular and always highly rated by giving us average animation. :'(

I wonder what they are investing OP's earnings on if there are not using it to improve the anime quality?

I agree, since OP is popular they know that people will watch it regardless of how bad the animation is. Film Z & Strong world had the best animation so far and as for episodes I'd say it was episode 521. Toei is not known for having amazing animation either, I wish Madhouse or studio bones got the rights to animate it. :/ Which will never happen, but what's a bigger issue is the pacing & that's something they can easily fix.

Here's one example. Look at how detailed the characters are (in particular Zoro,Kuma,Nami and luffy)

I am watching the Thriller Bark right now and the animation is pretty good in 720p

Is it really that bad after TB arc?
The animation doesn't get too bad after Thriller Bark. There will still be many great animated scenes especially in Impel Down/Marineford.

However, after timeskip, The animation becomes more inconsistent. But overall it generally good

my least favorite arc in anime is Sabaody Archipelago, even worse than the anime is atm, the art was just so ugly in Sabaody at times :/

if Toei got their stuff together they could do a 30th anniversary edition of OP and reanimate it, you can do it at an even faster pace than HxH is and the (what will yb then be) 1300-1400 episodes can be animated into 400 proper 20 minute episodes, Toes can do great animation as shown by Strong World and Film Z, though I prefer Strong world because I think the art is better in it, more One Piece like (if that makes any sense to anyone else)

but that will never happen because it would be too expensive

maybe if One Piece reaches popularity manyfold that of DBZ (yes it's popular now in Japan but probably not enough to justify a project with that many hundred episodes, especially since the entire OP will have aired once on TV already by then)

LOL Toei's lazy ass will never do that. Although that sounds awesome and I'll watch it if it does happen. Maybe after OP ends? Who knows.

One Piece is the best viewed program in that timeslot in Japan, has been like that for years.

One episode of 20 minutes roughly cost 600K dollar to produce.

So let's say you're in charge of the budget, would you spend more money on a show that will continue to run for 10 more years and airs weekly and already is doing great ? Or would you spend it on lesser known shows that don't have a big name to drive them.

Attack on titan is only big because it has an awesome anime, lets be honest that the manga is pretty shit. This is just how it works. Seasonal and unknown anime will get more budget to appeal the audience, and One Piece doesn't need that.

If they would pump more money into the OP anime, they won't see a lot of 'new' viewers all off a sudden. You only make pirates happy who rip the videos of the internet for free week in week out.

Also the better animation in TB is just something that's between your ears, TB had its moments like all arcs did, but it wasn't special. Posting fragments of 30 seconds of good animation doesn't paint the entire picture,

Luffy vs Ceasar round 2, or the law vs Doffy and Luffy vs Chinjao all were done pretty good. Scenes like that just get the better animators/directors and money.

Google a study of one piece animation for more info, and you'll know how the game is being played. It's all about money.
