At first, it's understandable. He wanted to pretend to be Madara to be able to manipulate everyone easier. Keeping his real identity in secret was required for that.
But after that lie was exposed, why did he carry on with that?
Not removing his mask can be explained with the fact that it provided him a face protection (and was said to be made extra sturdy for battle).
But I still don't get why he didn't just reveal himself.
At first, I thought the reason might be - he didn't want Kakashi to find out, because that would be too much of a hint to the secret of his space-time ninjutsu and that was too risky.
But it seems unlikely. Even before his identity was revealed, Tobi didn't even try to hide his resentment towards Kakashi.
In fact, Obito could have used his identity as a way of weakening Kakashi psychologically, to create an opening and kill him easily.
Any ideas?
