Why did Obito help Itachi ?

The story Obito told to Sasuke turned out to be a lie, because that story was a viewpoint from the real Madara who would have a grudge against the Uchiha, not from the viewpoint of Obito himself.
Obito had a grudge against Kakashi and the Konoha, he even tried to destroy Konoha with the Kurama attack on the village.
So in this point of view, shouldn't he be on the side of the Uchiha and support the Coup d'état ? If so why did he help Itachi kill the Uchiha members? Was it to hide his true identity from Itachi?

Did I miss something in the story that explains his action?

That seems to harsh, does it not. Indeed, they were stashed but with the exception of the one he used against Konan (which he could have had it even from before he met Itachi) , he had no use for them. I don't remember him using them at all during the War. They were insignificant. He had no grudge against the Uchiha whatsoever, so why go to the extreme and eliminate them all?
