This is the part of Obito/Madara story I am kinda confused on. Obito had his right eye but no left eye. At the point that Obito met Madara, Madara must have had the Rinnegan, or if he didn't, during the duration that Obito was with Madara attained the Rinnegan. What I don't understand is once Obito turned to the 'dark side', why didn't he give Obito the Rinnegan? It has been proven that you can revive people with only one Rinnegan by Obito so why didn't Obito receive it? Why did this seemingly random child, Nagato receive it? Obito would have probably awakened the Rinnegan very quickly compared to Nagato for all we know could have sold Ramen for a living and never awaken it.

Simply put, Why did Nagato receive the Rinnegan over the more obvious choice, Obito?

Well that is kinda where I am confused. Madara already planned to make Obito his 'successor.' He already planned everything out and apparently knew that Obito will join him. Why did Madara's plan involve a random child getting the Rinnegan instead of Obito?

I kind of think that Nagato got his dojutsu mainly because hes a uzumaki(large chakra reserves), and Obito was supposed to have Nagato bring bring Madara back to life with his rinningan technique but he used it to return all the people from the hidden leaf attack instead.

he choose a random kid so he could revive him and so madara could keep his disciple alive. obito might have refused and left madara dead if he'd been asked to sacrifice himself .
Negato wasn't random I'm pretty sure him being one of the only surviving Uzumaki decendants has quite a bit to do with it.

Nagato was no random child. He was an Uzumaki, who are distant related to Senju and are renowned for their life force. They also have a large chakra reserve. With the Rinnegan transplanted which were originally Sharingan, the other piece of the puzzle of power was found thus creating a God-like child; the next Sage of the Six Path was in existance.

No, I mean Nagato already had the rinnegan by the time Madara even knew about Obito.
His original plan was for Nagato to revive him.
