Why did Itachi never try sealing Roshi, and (possibly) Naruto with Totsuka?

I get that Itachi was just trying to play his part as a spy, and sealing them would blow his cover.

But:

1. Wouldn't it be safe to assume Obito had informed Pain that Itachi is a spy? Making the work he does for Akatsuki pointless.

2. What did he think Akatsuki was going to do with all 9 bijuu??? Why would he not attempt to thwart their plans. Did it never occur to him that 9 Bijuu together is devastating.

I can understand a little why he wouldn't seal Naruto in part 1 since that cripples the Leaf's strength...but not even Roshi?

Possibly this, since Tobi and Kisame were somewhat close.

Best answer I can give:

As you already touched on, Itachi entered the Akatsuki to make sure they never threaten Konoha, but this also includes Konoha's "trick up their sleeve". As many if the Kages previously stated, the tailed beasts balanced power in the shinobi world. Killing and sealing Naruto would leave Konoha at a great disadvantage, something Itachi would want to avoid.

And another thing to add, Itachi is a pacifist at heart, sealing them away is against his nature.

I think you've definitely got the answer Kishi would give if I asked him this question.

The problem is that, Akatsuki stealing the Bijuu already causes the imbalance of power. But I think you do have a great point on the whole Pacifist thing. Since that does potentially invoke wars.

-He didn't know that Obito had spoken to Danzo and learned the truth. He also knew that Obito was the real mastermind. So the 1st point is entirely invalid.

-If he did that, they'd be sealed away forever. Seal away Naruto, and you cut down a significant source of Konoha's power. That would make no sense. As for the other jins, Pain/Obito/other Akatsuki would not be pleased. All Akatsuki vs Itachi has an obvious outcome, with Itachi's death.

He was better off spying. Kishimoto stated, and in the anime as well that he just kept tabs on them. He would give that info to Hiruzen (and it would not be publicly released, probably because at the time the villagers despised kid Naruto- telling them that an organization wanted him would not be a wise choice, they'd probably give him to them), but once Hiruzen died, Danzo kept that intel for himself. Itachi didn't have anyone to report to at that point (since only Hiruzen/elders could know the truth), so he just made sure that the current members never hurt Konoha during his lifetime.

Edit: Also, Itachi's personality is such that he doesn't cause conflict until he absolutely has to and even then, he tries to end it quickly and not cause physical injuries to his opponents, when he can. Itachi randomly sealing jins would be entirely out of character and just bad writing tbh.

1&2. itachi was loyal to the leaf, so was a spy in akatsuki, obito cant give itachi orders like the rest , itachi's only interest was making sure sasuke ,naruto and the leaf ninja didnt get killed. that why he went to the leaf with kisame so he could negate the destruction and make sure nothing to serious happend while giving the operance that he wanted to take the kyuubi . also so show danzo he wasnt playing around with him either.

so to answer your question. totsuka is over kill plus the spirit weapons where his trump cards . even obito didnt know he had access to them. which is why they make itachi invincible. the suprise factor of an attack with these wepons . litterally sealed the deal

I understand why he wouldn't seal Naruto, but not even try to take Roshi.

I'm sure he trusted Jman

Apparently Obito never informed Nagato. Because Nagato was surprised when he heard the truth about Itachi.

Itachi is one of the luckiest character when it comes to plot, kishi just makes everything he does looks like he planned it that way, leaving too many question marks on itachi.
1.To awaken your mangekyo you need to kill your best friend-was he planning on sasuke killing naruto or vice versa??
2.He used his strongest genjutsu on kakashi-what was his assurance kakashi would survive??is that how he looks out for the leave??
Too many for me to start typing out

1. How could he have known that Naruto will be Sasuke's best friend? He wanted Sasuke to awaken the Mangekyou to make him strong. And to him sacrificing someone would be worth it.
When he said it, he never knew that Naruto will be his best friend, much less how important he'll be.
2. When Itachi used his genjutsu on Kakashi. Shortly after Kakashi said to himself "Why didn't he kill me, if he wanted to he could".
This means that probably Itachi knew how much he can withstand to just make him pass out.

Itachi dies if he uses the spirit weapons, that's why. He wanted Sasuke to "kill" him.

1.Your point is pointless, he definitely knew, he has been spying on sasuke all the while, that's why he put the bird in naruto
2.You mean kakashi's stamina guage is viewable with his sharingan?? Fact is he wanted to prove a point to kakashi, why else should he go to the extent of using what puts him in danger," THE MS"
