I've been rereading the first part of naruto manga and have been discovering a number of inconsistencies (which are to be expected) but Kishi usually does an alright job at bringing everything together at the end.
However, there is one thing i cannot understand:
This seems logical enough, but if this is true, then why didn't the Second Hokage reverse the edo tensei on himself while fighting hiruzen? I know that Orochimaru/Kabuto made alterations to the Edo Tensei, but Madara would not know about these changes. If he could do it, surely it would follow that Tobirama would too

We all know that Madara was able to resist edo tensei, but not much of an explanation was given. Essentially, its understood that he defied the jutsu because he knows about the jutsu and knows the seals that is uses
