there was a thread about this a long time ago when that 1st happened. Everyone raged about it and it was kind of a conclusion that the awakening from Sharingan to Rinnegan repaired (restored) his lost eye......

I still think it was plot no jutsu XD

thats also what I reed on Narutopedia.

Even if he could have, Kishi wouldn't have written him that way. Remember how everyone used to think the Rinnegan was it's on dojutsu and not part of a Sharingan evolution? People would be questioning how Pain/Nagato is able to use EMS technique's, despite not resembling an Uchiha at all. It would be completely obvious that those pairs of eyes do not belong to him, which would ruin his stance as the leader of Akatsuki tbh. Also, he would be OP with susanoo and 6 paths abilities at once more than Madara was in edo form

I guess only the person who has awakened the Rinnegan from Sharingan (evolution) can use the full power of Rinnegan and the root abilities of the Sharingan. Implanted Rinnegans don't grant Sharingan abilities presumably.

i agree !!....pain without his Rinnegan is like sasuke without his sharingan...they are just fodders

So then kakashi is a fodder too right since sasuke was just like kakashi talented but sharingan made them better

Kakashi wasn't birthed with sharigan such as Sasukesama was.

Okay yet sasuke was already talented before he used sharingan kakashi was talented but losing an eye made him weaker and getting a sharingan made him better. Sasuke getting sharingan made him better

Kakashi losing sharingan dude gets weaker depressed lets you know he was good but not that good

Sasuke losing sharingan he will be just like a kakashi good but not that good

They were transplanted eyes. Just like Kakashi's sharingan, a transplanted eye can not be deactivated or shifted from whatever form it was in during the transplant.

Pretty much this, except if a transplantee is able to unlock further evolutions himself, then he can obviously revert back after that point; ie Kakashi. A transplantee like Kakashi could theoretically unlock Rinnegan given the right DNA and both MS. If he did, he might be able to use all the jutsu.

Even if he could have, Kishi wouldn't have written him that way. Remember how everyone used to think the Rinnegan was it's on dojutsu and not part of a Sharingan evolution? Right, it would have been bad writing to do so. It only makes sense that someone who is transplanted the final form of a doujutsu cannot regress it. However, if they start with a less progressed doujutsu and evolve it themselves, they'd likely have access to everything they unlocked along the way. It might have been convenient for the plot for it to work out this way, but it was the proper way to do it.
