Why are you atheists/agnostic?

Don't bite my head off or anything, but I'm going to tread shark infested waters with a sub machine gun and ask a couple of million dollar questions and say...

...what do atheists have to lose to believe in a religion? It's not as if you can say " Ha ha! I told you so!" if by some preposterous fluke that there isn't an afterlife/Lord Almighty.

By being a keen observer, I've also noticed that a huge number of atheists become atheists or agnostic because of one particular denomination:

The Catholic Church: I'm not trying to play the blame game here, but I've heard some wild stuff that goes on in this church. A large number of Catholic extremists scare people off because they say crazy stuff like "homosexuals are going straight to Hell if they don't renounce there ways." Also, a bunch of my friends who are atheists/agnostic said that they were brought up in a strict Catholic family.

Also number 2 question. Is it because you just want freedom in general from practicing any religious beliefs? I know I know, it's a chore and as a Christian myself I don't necessarily follow everything that the Bible says because I guess that's just the way I roll.

Some athiest just say they are because they may not lik their current belief and is tired of practicing religions and probably figure it will get them no where in life.(ignore this comment if you are a true athiest)

Also i hate it when people always say something like"if there is a god...prove it" because obviously there is no proof that there is a god. But there is no proof that there isnt one either.
So please refrain from saying this.

I think so too. sometimes the church can get corrupted...like any other huge groups.

I don't believe in god because I am 100% sure that god does not exist.... Just as i'm sure people with faith are 100% sure god does exist.

I think the place we go after we die is.... No where, I know some people have a hard time accepting the concept but why is it easy to think of yourself as nothing before you were ever born but not after you die?

i personally believe athiest just dont believe in nothing. and have no religion
but if they was smart. Athiest IS a religion. The Religion that have no religion. Research it

Those who say there is no GOD are blind for sure. Because anyone who has eyes and a brain can tell that this world didn't just created itself.
Even a small chair cannot come to existance on its own, how can anyone say the world did !

all churches--at some point--get corrupted. however, it doesn't matter in what you choose to believe... it's belief itself that keeps "religion" going. the Egyptian religion/mythology lasted over 4000 years, while Christianity is barely at 2000 years. We call it Egyptian Mythology, so should we also say Christian Mythology? or is Christianity so current that it's no myth...? i don't know... also, i don't believe that u must believe in the Bible to believe in God... Religion and belief are different...

Why is it that we humans must have a purpose? Honestly, I can't help but thinking that religion is an easy way to tie up some loose knots. There was a meaning with my sisters death, I have cancer for a reason, my wife cheated on me for a greater purpose. Some people would break down if they were told that there was no meaning with their lives, or the deaths of their loved ones. But sometimes, life can be cruel. Cruel does not equal purpose.

I don't think I can say I'm truly on either side.
To me it's more like I don't really care, I stay on the sidelines most often in these matters, but if I had to share my thoughts on this, I'd say that there may or may not be a god/-s. As it stands now, it is merely concept since it hasn't been proven right or wrong, so I just can't be bothered to use up my energy on the issue since it doesn't interest that very much in the first place.
What is interesting though, is how many people there are whom are bound to all this by "soul".

I am 100% sure and so are you.... It just means one of us is wrong.

I can see as plain as the grass is green that the earth and all of the life forms on it were here due to natually occurring phenomenons. And i'm sure you can see just as plain as the grass is green that it would take some design to create of of this at the level of intricacy that nature shows.

Just because we are both sure it does not mean we both have to be right it's just a different point of view.

sorry sister but the golden rule isn't "love thy neighbor as thyself." that's a different commandment alltogether. the Golden Rule is "due unto others as you'd have them do unto you."

Your wife probally cheated on you. so you can realize shes not the one for you. Hard to accept but its the truth

you probally got cancer so that you live through it. and tell people how you lived through it and survived. you save lives by telling ppl your story while your on the death bed

Your sisters death? Idk. Everybody is born with an experation date. dont expect people to live forever

i personally dont claim to be CHRISTIAN i simply say i believe in the father,son, and the holy spirit. he died on the cross for me etc.

the Christian title is also getting corupted. i do agree with you guyys to that part. But everybody that believes in god are...... Judgemental.

My family's spiritual, but I turned Buddhist, because I think that Buddhism is the truth. So basically I am an Atheist.
