Its a debate between character abilities, if one character does not have a counter to a certain ability then they lose.

i agree with this.

alot of people due debates based on abilities instead of how a normal fight would go

That's true they forget the characters intelligence, experience etc.

Because people discuss the characters abilities, not their state of mind. So in the manga they might be stronger than their opponents ,but their state of mind is different. Thats why Itachi > Jiraiya in abilities ,but at the time Jiraiya > Itachi because of Itachi's conditions
