I get the whole respect the dead part, but aren't we technically energy for decomposers? Shouldn't we just get placed underground with some nice clothing and rot underground? Our dead body will help give energy to decomposers, which is good for the Earth I guess :/

Your thoughts?

Bodies gotta go somewhere. Burning them is just disrespectful, so we bury them under the ground in a box.

How is burning a dead body disrespectful???? When your time is up do you really care what happens to your body? A funeral is nothing but a expensive burden that is placed on family members. To each his own, but I feel burning the bodies is simplistic and cheap.

It's just a very old practice dating back to the Greeks who would try to preserve bodies as much as possible for the afterlife. Generally its a sign of respect or love or something along those lines. The oldest and most common practice is cremation. Oh also putting people in boxes lets you bury them closer to cities, since as you know, dead bodies have harmful bacteria and diseases

It's a mean to preserve the body; it's actually more of a christian tradition that has become prevalent.
