Usually kids in warfare don't go to school, nor have the time to learn how to read or write.

It's called "naruto", not "american history".

These kids usually train everytime and afterwards go to have a little fun

Says who? Please reference where it says that these kids never take lessons and do nothing but train and go have fun, all the time?

- it was stated in the databook that the only "hobby time" kid Madara and Hashirama had was when they were together so another point to believe in this inconsistency.

Who said "learning" is suppose to be a hobby? How does that indicate that they've never been taught how to read and write?Where's your substance?

Remember these stones?

Well, it seems they were able to write, however considering the period they lived in it's controversial and inconsistent.

Says who? How do you know they weren't taught how to read and write before they went on the battlefield or on the side?

Maybe they were prodigies in school subjects too?

But where's your substance?

It doesn't matter if the universe is Naruto. This environment is quite realistic.
And my "substance" it's what Hashirama himself said. The life expectation was of 30 years for everybody.
And the databook where it said that it was only when Madara and Hashirama met they could relax.
How can one expect to a kid in that environment be more focused on learning grammar instead of survival skills? :/

It's fact known worldwide. Where there is huge war environment there is illiteracy.

Because Ninja would need to know how to read, analyse and know what's what. They can't expect to rely on others and must have capacity to carry out their missions. Being a ninja wasn't all about the battle field but also involved espionage etc. I'm pretty sure literacy would plan an important part in that.

As for most of those countries on the world map theure not illiterate because of war but because of priorities. People prioritise livelihood over learning to read and write, with the younger generation in those countries it's different because somebody is earning the livelihood to support them.

Being a Shinobi is not just about fighting. There's a lot of information gathering and passing in the Shinobi world. Even back then...hell, ESPECIALLY back then, they had to know how to read and write to be able to execute their job correctly.
