Kakashi is far better as a character, a lot more human and deeper. But Itachi is a great character too.

And for combat... well Kamui GG says everything.

Itachi Uchiha is by far the best well written character of anime history. End of Discussion. Case Closed. Bye!

Someone said Itachi failed? How did Itachi fail? He saved the village several times I believe and he saved the entire shinobi world. Such an unselfish shinobi. Everything he did was not to benefit him.

Both written very well, although I'm a Kakashi fan, I'd have to say Itachi was written better.

Lets see:

Itachi is a complete hypocrite. He acted like everything he planned for will be going according; but completely didn't take consideration of other things. He protected his village for the sake of being ''Konoha Shinobi''. He killed his entire clan just for that nonsense. He then acted like he loved Sasuke and would protect him, but completely tortured the former. He even relied on Hiruzen Sarutobi to protect Sasuke, while doing nothing when remaining outside his village. The government ordered him to spy and collect info, but Itachi hadn't done that, either. Itachi had depth as character, I'll admit that; however he is completely hypocrite.

On the other hand, Kakashi is just ''human''. He is the only character who carried so much burden, and still never forgot who he always was. Arguably, he has the saddest life.

-His father was hated, thus committed suicide.
-His best friend, Obito, died horribly in a war.
-He was used unconscionably by Madara to kill Rin, his other best friend; and broke the promise that he made to Obito.
-He thought Obito was dead all this time, just to find that he became evil.

Kakashi has suffered so much pain, and still remained the same person he always was and still is. He doesn't act like anyone else. He acts like who he is. That is just why he is unbelievably well written. He is just human.

Kakashi i think because he is so calm and friendly but ruthless at the same time. Also him dealing with regret and mistakes of his past shows he is vulnerable. Yet he keeps his cool and does what he must. This combination makes him great. He has been shown dealing with his past since part 1 until he finally had to face it head on. And he showed he is far from perfect but can endure. He is an excellent example of those who endure. Though so is itachi. The difference is itachi killed his own clan he had to endure that pain but he did what was best for the shinobi world. Kakashi had to deal with his mistakes that led to the false death of a comrade and a promise he failed to keep to that friend. He was never strong enough as strong as he was. He than failed to guide his student. Itachi did what he truly felt was right and gathered no hate from his parents only respect for following his own path
