Itachi died, just like he wanted. He never wanted to win that battle, and he couldn't have because of his sickness. He fought to his limit, and I think Sasuke won it in all fairness.

Sasuke was on a wall ready to cry for his life when Itachi was standing and ultimately died by his illness and overuse of chakra
And despite the fact that he wanted to lose, according to Zetsu, Sasuke was on the verge of death and would probably have died if they didn't arrive
Tobi later said that he wouldn't be talking with Sasuke if Itachi truly tried to kill Sasuke

Itachi won the battle and got finished of by illness
Sasuke got rescued
Itachi's plan was successful

I think it's pretty clear that Itachi was the true victor

Yeah, his illness killed him. He never finished Sasuke, so he never won. Are you also going to tell me that Kimimaro won when he died of an illness? If the illness hadn't killed him, Kimimaro would have won, but he didn't. Because it killed him and he's dead. It's the exact same thing.

I do think Kimimaro won ._. Gaara was out of chakra to fight and Lee was in no shape... even Gaara admitted that it was luck and he should have been killed ._.
Besides, the circumstances aren't the same
Kimimaro was trying to win, Gaara wasn't on the verge of death after the fight
And Kimimaro did succeed in delaying Gaara and Lee long enough didn't he?

itachi blind sick to death barely survived kirin all this led to his death

fact is if itachi no matter what situation except inazami the outcome would be the same the only reason sasuke was out of chakra was the body shedding plus he consantly had to use his own chakra to hold oro down anyways not much would change if itachi wanted to kill him
