Actually not really. Naruto was able to force Deidara into giving back Gaara with Kakashi's help. Kakashi Kamui sniped Deidara's left arm. That wasn't a fodder tatic.

He also trained with Jiraiya for 3 years to master the Rasengan and be resistant to genjutsu.

Sakura's big ass punches were far from fodder as she was able to destroy Sasori's Hiruko puppet.

Team 7 were just completely bamboozled by Sasuke's speed and his Sword of Kusunagi.

Actually when Naruto, Sai, Sakura and Yamato were searching for Sasuke, they found him and then had a battle. Sasuke was dominating team 7 and then Sasuke was prepared to kill him with his jutsu until Orochimaru stopped Sasuke.

Yamato, Sakura, Sai and Naruto didn't stand a chance against Sasuke.
