Jiraiya Passed on skills and wisdom to his students. Something Minato, Naruto and Nagato (although he became twisted due to circumstances brought by Danzo and Hanzo) all attribute to their master. A philosophy of find peace and fighting to protect it.
Orochimaru: Trained Sasuke, Kabuto, Suigetsu, Karin, the Sound 5. He's got an eye for talent. Although, only Sasuke and Kabuto made something of themselves and reached Kage level at a young age.
As for the Leaf Sensei I rank them all equal with the exception of Kakashi. Who doesn't even place next to his peers. Each sensei were given mostly crap (the K12) and instructed to make them into shinobi. Kakashi is the only one who failed in that regard.
Guy: was given
Neji a genius of the Hyuga and had the highest scores of his class.
Tenten who doesn't have the best chakra control since alledgedly she wanted to become a medic like Tsunade her idol.
Lee who had the lowest scores of his class and can't use Ninjutsu or Genjutsu.
And Guy made them in to a team and proper shinobi. Neji made Jonin at 15. Tenten he made he the best weapons expert in the Leaf. Lee who was the weakest link on the team he focused on and turned his disadvantage into and advantage. He also kept Lee's spirit up (see when Lee doubted getting that operation that could kill him) and told him to always think of himself as capable. That's the mark of a great teacher.
Asuma:
Was given a Leaf legacy team in the Ino-Shika-Cho. While it seems as far back as Part 1 that the Ino-Shika-Cho knew their strengths and weaknesses (Shikamaru commenting on Ino's fight with Sakura and using the mind transfer jutsu). Asuma still had to whip his team into shape. Ino was bossy, Shikamaru a genius who would purposefully half-ass his missions and school work and Choji a big softy at heart. Asuma really came through for all his students as seen in the Hidan-Kakuzu Arc and the fight against them as Edo-Tensei. They work together flawlessly and learned that the future (children) of the village was worth fighting and protecting. Major props to Asuma focusing on the weakest link of his squad (Shikamaru) and finding ways to motivate and stimulate him to see past his own disinterest with life and everything.
Kurenai: was given the most mismatched team for her skill set. Kurenai a genjutsu specialist, was given command of 3 ninja who have the makings of a tracking squad. Kiba +Akamaru and their noses, Hinata's byukugan, and Shino's bugs. We know the least about this team since Kurenai (a woman and Kishi can't write women for sh!t) was the leader but we do know the results of her instruction. Kurenai gets sidelined early in Part 2 due to being knocked up by Asuma and essentially falling of the face of the manga. However, we do know Kurenai got all of her genin to chunin and that when Team 7 were looking for Itachi; Tsunade assigned them Team 8 to track Itachi down. Despite losing their sensei, Team 8 had no trouble operating autonomously without one. So major props to Kurenai for that. Also Kurenai (as shown during the Chunin exams) focused more on developing Hinata. As like Lee on Team 3 and Shikmaru on Team 10, she was the weakest link of her squad. From Kurenai and Hinata herself we learn that what Hinata lacked was self-confidence/self-esteem to believe and challenge herself. Her problems were self imposed. During the timeskip Kurenai most likely helped Hinata move past that. Of course Neji and Naruto also helped push Hinata into changing herself. Again another solid teacher.
At the bottom of the list is Kakashi. Who couldn't keep his squad together and instead lost his students to stronger teachers than himself.
Team 7 are the products of the other sensei. In Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke's case that would be the Sannin. Include who Sai was trained by Danzo. That makes 4. Sasuke and Naruto left the village and went to Jiraiya and Oro, but Sakura stayed in the village. For 2.5 years Kakashi did nothing with Sakura or attempted to teach Sakura anything. If Sakura hadn't sought out Tsunade for an apprenticeship, she would be nowhere.
Not surprising really. Kakashi had no direction in life himself, so how could we expect him to pass that own to anyone else. When he did have his squad in one place, he focused on his strongest member, rather than his weakest link. Unlike his peers among the Leaf jonin. In the end, Kakashi never understood Sasuke and seemed dumbfounded that Sasuke would leave the village and nearly 4 years later would try to kill him at the 5 Kage Summit. Sound awfully like the mistake Hiruzen made with Oro. Focusing on his star pupil over his other students, only to have that pupil try to kill him years later.
