So the different in age between shisui and itachi is same as different between naruto and Konohamaru.

That doesn't mean he was his sensei.

Guess who Naruto was to Konohamaru? Maybe 'sensei' is not a very appropriate word to use here, but Naruto sure was teaching Konohamaru in a way. Same with Itachi and Shisui. Mentor, teacher, big brother, that's who he was to Itachi. Though, these are, yet again, just synonyms to 'sensei', but it seems that this word gives you some false meaning due to how it's used in japanese and the way it sounds, but really, sensei simply means "teacher", and Shisui was one of Itachi's teachers.

Itachi was self-taught at age 7 as mention by the Third Hokage Hurizen and benefited from the teachers at the Academy as stated by the Teacher in Sasuke's flashback. He was also taught by Shisui. And Obito was his mentor once he left the village.

academy teacher said he basically taught himself because he was such a genius or something like that.

Itachi was trained by Shisui (note all the cues and crows he lifted from Shisui's style) and his father Fugaku Uchiha. Itachi was the elder son of the head of the Uchiha Clan. He would've had to have been trained since he could walk, in order to assume a leadership role. Plus, recall Itachi saw combat at age 4. Hiruzen and likely his own father Fugaku put him in the field early.

Actually Kurenai was his teacher, Shisui was more of a life mentor
