I say he could be the younger son of the six paths. Because he isn't a hand-to-hand fighter much. Mostl is long range.
Also, he could've killed his older brother, but no before the elder son destroys his eyes. Than he got a weaker sharingan later.
That would explain izanagi.

There could've been a third son of the sage of six paths, or there could've been another brother of Madara (besides Izuna)
