Who should/shouldn't Tobi be?

First, the purpose of this thread is not to put theories on who Tobi could be. There are countless theories about who people think he is, and this thread isn't really about proof or reasoning.

I want to know who you all think Tobi SHOULD or SHOULD NOT be, not who you think he IS or IS NOT. With the war drawing to a close, and Naruto's battle with Tobi being the only real fight left, Tobi's identity should be revealed in the next few chapters (or at least by the time the next movie comes out). Furthermore, unless Tobi gets killed somehow, he will likely serve as the main villain and Sasuke's mentor for the foreseeable future.

1. Who do you most want Tobi to be? Which character (or characters) would best serve the story as a whole? Which one would be the best as the main villain in the next arc? Which of the Tobi possibilities would disappoint you the most? Which would be the most surprising? What about if Tobi dies?

2. And why do you want him/her/them to be Tobi?

To answer some of the above questions, I think that Tobi needs to be an extremely polarizing and unexpected character like Hashirama, Tobirama or Shisui, because Tobi's reasoning for starting the Fourth War, wanting Naruto and Sasuke to fight, etc. should not be an obvious one. I think that another misguided "good guy" would be the best option for driving the story.

I think that Tobi being a Zetsu clone or some other form of Madara would disappoint me the most, because there is no mystery to Madara anymore. We already know what Madara is capable of and we know what motivates his actions.

Lets just clear this up, Tobi CAN NOT be Izuna.... He's dead with no eyes.... unless madara Re-gave him rinnegan / Sharingan, but i doubt it because we saw madara standing next to izunas coffin, with his eyes bandaged.

Tobi should be Madara's split personality he created before his death. Would explain many things (Why Tobi needed Nagato to use Rinne Tensei for him, why he is only a shell of his former self etc.)

There is also a chance we won't ever see Tobi unmask himself. He could fuse with Edo-Madara making him complete, and young again.

Definitely would be unexpected and his motives would need explaining. I would only be more surprised if Tobi was revealed to be Tonton.

It can't be... we saw izuna in the manga with him in his coffin, with a bandage over his eyes while madara was standing there... unless madara could bring him back with Edo... or a life-restoring technique.

A good theory as any which falls into one of my numerous theories.


Tobi will not be the main villain any longer then the war,as sasuke is not even on his side to begin with just using him he would never see him as his "mentor" also having him surrive this conflict to start another one would be totally pointless and the plot would go nowhere

Well giving it is Masashi’s story, we the viewers are in no position to say who Tobi should or shouldn’t be. Answering your question, to me I personally think Tobi is either a new character from a clan or someone from the past / future. Another far-fetched option, would be Tobi either being Kagami Uchiha or Setsuna Uchiha. Setsuna seems like he would fit Tobi’s personality based off the little info that is presented on him. I agree with you saying that Tobi being a misguided “good guy” would be the best option for the story, as long as it is not Hashirama. It almost overkill too have Madara and Hashirama as the two possibly final villains in the show.The Younger Son of the Sage would make for an interesting villain.

madra has rinnengen ( maybe used a jutsu to bring Izuna back to life) or the transfer technique

I think that you are missing the point. It is not so important about why Tobi can and cannot be somebody so much as how his identity being revealed would best serve the overall story. In other words, why would Tobi being Kagami be better than Tobi being anybody else? What would Kagami bring to the table in terms of plot development? Same thing for a revived Edo Tensei Izuna.

2 tobis: madara and izuna.
madara eventually died but left izuna with the mission of using nagato to revive him when the jinjuriki were gathered.
- would explain the flashback tobi having different hair style
- would explain the need to keep sasuke around (madara could take his young body)
- would explain why tobi has different eyes , Izuna lost both
I still think one way or another Obito will be involved in the end. (body was taken and used)

Probably Obito or someone completely new. I don't think it's Izuna, how old would he be if he was still alive ? He is Madara's younger brother, which means he was Hashirama's and/or Tobirama's contemporary.
