I was reluctant to read the manga at first because I prefer the anime over the manga, but I decided to read it anyways since new episodes aren't coming for a while (months or even a year). You're missing out on a lot. I recommend reading the manga.

Those 25 episodes took up 33 chapters worth of material - almost 3 years of chapters. If the production company want to make it sustainable and without fillers. There needs to be a 2-3 year gap between each series for 25 episodes.

AoT is a potential goldmine so I doubt the show will be discontinued but don't expect to see it before 2015 at the very least.
