Yes, as a matter of fact, I am going to trust that. Because he knows he's going to die. He knows his lies will take him no further. He could only bare the truth before him. If you actually read that chapter of the manga, you would have seen what Danzo understood being a shinobi meant. (To him.) That a ninja's duty was sacrifice for the greater good. Even if it meant using deception and cruel tactics. It would have well been possible for him to just remain silent had he not meant those words. He knew he was about to die, he knew his seal would activate.

If he didn't mean them, the words were unnecessary. Danzo's character is strongly pragmatic. He wouldn't speak unnecessary words at his death.

Danzo screwed up the ninja world way more than Orochimaru.

- Danzo's men along with Hanzo were responsible for turning Nagato so corrupt.
- Danzo had that final graduation test: Kill your comrade in combat.
- He put amnesia on Kabuto's mother so that she wouldn't remember him when they fought.
- Danzo was one of elders who no longer wanted to negotiate peacefully with the Uchiha Clan while Hiruzen did. It's probably so he could get his twisted hands on so many Sharingan.

Danzo never loved Hiruzen's Konoha. He wanted to destroy it and build his own. It was all a result of his jealousy of Hiruzen since they were young. That's all.

When did I call Konoha corrupted? I only used the example of Gotham to show that a city can still be belived in even if it's not going the way you want. Danzo hated Hiruzen's WAY he was running the village, not the village itself.

And remember, we are comparing this to Orochimaru. You know, the guy who slaughtered people for himself.
