I find it laughable that people are stating that Orochimaru and Shikmaru are geniuses and yet, are not counting Sasuke because of their own bias, when both characters outright praised Sasuke's rare genius. By manga logic established by Hiruzen and Orochimaru, Sasuke is above Shikamaru and Minato. The feats also back this up. So, here is the list:

1 - Orochimaru / Tobirama / Shikaku- The smartest people.
2 - Itachi / Sasuke.
3 - Sasuke / Itachi.
4 - Tsunade / Shikamaru / Kabuto.
5 - Madara.

The manga tells us Shikmaru is a genius. To put it this way:

Sasuke/Madara analytical abilities are above the average normal shinobi.

Shikamaru on the other-hand will perform the same way, except at the same time he devised; Plans, strategies, and formulas to take down his opponent in further steps than a normal man could (Manga stated he had thought up to 1 - 100 ways to defeat a single person). Even with intelligence, no one in this manga lives up to that.

Joke of the century, when Shikamaru confessed that he looked up to Sasuke in everything and Orochimaru outright stated that Sasuke made his own genius look pitiful when he was his age. And according to Hiruzen, Orochimaru was once in a life time genius. That puts Sasuke - at that age - once in a few life times genius. Get out.

Orochimaru was defeated by a 13 year old Itachi, and taking that into consideration you believe him calling Sasuke a genius means something important? Sasuke has never once shown interest in Orochimaru`s habits of gaining knowledge via experiments (Why he was hailed a Genius in the first place). To put Sasuke on the level of Shikimaru who can think 100 steps ahead and calculate battle strategies like out of thin air, towards an Uchiha who has higher than average sustainable analytical abilities? That Ashura argument is still stinging, I see. Also, the lower plane of your stupidity probably has no lower plane - paradox - when Intelligence and power tiers are not even interchangeable.
