Both are probably on the same level but in time-factor Minato beats everyone in NV...
Itachi figure out his opponent and so do Minato but Minato do this in mere seconds while it take minutes for Itachi...In time-factor I think Kakashi rivals Itachi, he also can do what the above mentioned can...

I would have to go with Itachi on this one.
- Minato tried but failed to have a successful pregnancy with Kushina & Naruto. But their was interference (Obito) even though he planned thoroughly.

- Itachi has never once failed in anything he did except for raising Sasuke the right way, he said himself I believe. Itachi planned his own death, planted a crow with Shisui's eye to destroy Sasuke if Naruto fought him, flawlessly planned a mental mind trick to get the reaction ITACHI wanted years! On his little brother, and don't even let me mention the Massacre.

So I feel Itachi takes this one. Minato is a beast too, but you have to rely on facts and logic.

Dont know but I know I would love see it! I mean honestly how do we know any of the top tier could take each other. Being a ninja is the art of surprise. If there was jutsu that embodied surprise I guess the ftg of the fourth or the genjutsu of itachi or any of the other crazy stuff itachi and minato had up their sleeves whould be pretty hard to prepare for.

In terms of what we've seen, Itachi has the edge. He analyzed Rinnegan shared vision, Chibaku Tensei, Edo Tensei, and figured out ways to defeat all those jutsu in practically an instant. And like Minato, he also figured out a way to hit Obito. Itachi also seems to be terribly knowledgeable in both senjutsu, Sharingan techniques, and everything in between as well.

Yea... Both are calm and calculative bt minato has d edge.... N plz tell or show me hw itachi figured a way 2 hit obito.... If I can recall d amaterasu is a jutsu that seems to burn anything it touches.... So plz don't call that a good way cos it never worked..... Itachi can't take on the oponents that mina to has taken on alone... Minato is the smartest to me....

Even if Minato and Itachi are smart! Even if you say who's smarter! Shikaku Nara will always be the smartest in terms of strategy then second will be Shikamaru Nara. Minato and Itachi are tie in the 3rd spot

They are variants of the kuchiyose and tailed beast bomb techniques. Itachi has created fūinjutsu though, sealing techniques that Obito called amazing, and created clones out of his summons to save energy. Itachi has also analyzed techniques more impressive than Chidori, like Edo Tensei, Chibaku Tensei, and Rinnegan shared vision. Lastly, Itachi was also labeled as a genius that hadn't been seen since the conception of the ninja academy and someone that Orochimaru, a genius stated by Hiruzen to be of the caliber that came along only every few decades, idolized.

dude its not itachi ..he would be 2nd or so ...minato will always be first no matter how you look at it ..you could say itachi because he was older and had more expirience and more time to learn things.. but minato was younger- he made rasengan from watching the kyubi use tbb ..for the first time ...he firgured out tobi's s/t faster than people who have seen it more than twice..he out smartest alot of people ...and he always was at his best since he was a kid.. ( at the part where he rescues kushina) - if minato lived to itachi's age he would have been smarter from the expirience though i understand people saying itachi is first though... i just dont believe he is
