My reasoning for Palpatine is the fact that he manipulated the whole galaxy into a three year long civil war so he could gain power as a charismatic war-time politician and become Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. Eventually he transformed the Republic into the evil Galactic Empire. He had absolute power and he deceived the galaxy into giving it to him.
He is also in the top 3 most powerful people who ever lived in the galaxy. He was the physical incarnation of the Dark Side, of evil. He was insane and a massive sadist.
And he was immortal.
