I'd rephrase that title to, "Who's the least terribly written female character?" but that's just me. On topic, I'd go with Tsunade as well.

You have a point, considering most of the females in the series are under-developed. But imo, Tsunade is nowhere near a mediocre-written character. She's leagues above that level.

Imho, it's Tsunade. Kishi has done a great job with her character. Tsunade is an excellent example of what a strong woman should be like. Her mental fortitude is what makes her character stands out the most, considering her bitter backstory. She once suffered from hemaphobia (a fear of blood) but through her strength of will, she has overcomed that fear and turned herself into one of the greatest medics of all time, if not, the greatest. Tsunade isn't afraid of standing up for her own rights, as evident when she hold her ground against Madara's mocking words and spoke up to him. Not to mention, she is an intelligent person who isn't shy, trusting the confidence she puts into herself. These are all great qualities that strong women carries. Tsunade is definitely strong (battle-wise) in a sense, as she earnt herself the Sannin and the Hokage title. The only thing Kishi should've done to her character is to kill her off during Madara's slaughter. I don't see much relevance in her character now; I feel as though Kishi kept her alive only for fanservice. Also, Kishi shouldn't have made a copy-cat version of Tsunade (Sakura) who doesn't have anything unique about her when comparing to Tsunade but whatever. Lol

Well, that's just my opinion. So, who do you think is the best female character that Kishi has produced?

Note: This is a very subjective manner.

You didn't have my choice up there. I would say Temari is pretty well written. We were introduced to her in part one and she showed to be a strong female ninja and Asuma even said she thought like Shikamaru during the Chunin exam, not to the same extend as him but she was a strategist. We see her return again when she saves Shikamaru from Tayuya and she owns her in that fight. We don't see much of her in Shippuden except in the save Gaara arc and have to wait until the Kage summit to see her again and she shown even more character growth as she shown to know about the politics of the ninja world which is something not much in her generation knows about.

We see her taking charge in the fight against Edo 3rd Raikage for a bit and was holding her own until Naruto came to help. She can see good qualities is a person and said Shikamaru would make a great Hokage by the way he was leading the Alliance and keeping hope among them for a time. I think Konan would be the next as we do get her back story and see her grow as a person and die fighting for what's right.

When i read the title of your thread, TSUNADE already came up to my mind. I agree with this. :)

Naruto being a shounen type of manga/anime, would def focus on male char and ofc coz hes the main char. :)

True. I wouldn't call her mediocre, but I also wouldn't say she's leagues above that either. She's just acceptable IMO. Perhaps if she was surrounded by better written female characters we wouldn't be placing her on such a high pedestal.

I agree. Temari's a pretty well-written character, too. Though, I'd like to see more of her abilities in part two of the series but I guess that is only one aspect of character progression.
Btw, I apologise for not including Temari in the poll option. I would have done so if I rememberd her Lol

Sakura is my favorite ,but she needed much more screen time than what kishi gaves her for development so she isn't the best written even though i like her the most .

The best written would be like you said tsunade .also i dont find anything bad with chiyo Just wished she gets more screen time because she was an awesome character by all means.(she rivals a lot of male characters in well written which is weird by kishi)
Tayuya and temari are nice too.konan was good ,but she is like the shadow of her teammates (not a bad thing ,but its hard to find her best written when she didn't get much moments of her own)
i didn't find old kushina interesting because i cant think of her as nothing but a plot device for naruto and minato .(young kushina was lovable though) .
Mei is a fun character that i wish i will see more of

So my list is:

Tsunade
Chiyo
Mei/konan
Tayuya/temari

Adding onto this, I think one of the interesting things about Temari is that even back when she was a genin, she showed interest in ninja politics. Back when she was introduced, she gave Naruto an explanation that the chunin exams exist the way they do is to have ninjas from all over fight at the same level of excellence, foster friendship between nations, and keep a balance of power. (And of course, later on, she starts being in charge of them herself.) While not really political, we know that she can't just sit back and accept things without a reason, seeing as to how she's the one who yelled at Ibiki over what the point of the 10th question was.

Also, although she was a genin under orders, during the flashback where Baki was explaining why they were invading the Leaf, she argued back about why they were doing this in the first place, considering that so much had already been scarified to form the treaty they had with the Leaf. Her conversation with Shikamaru when she shows up in the Sasuke retrieval arc is pretty interesting because of how Shikamaru was calling them traitors, but she said she was just following orders then just like she was doing now.

I still do have my problems with the way she's written. Mostly in regards to her lack of any real relevancy in Part 2, despite the opportunity being there. She's still definitely my fave, though.

Haku, the only female character I thought was a full, developed, and complex character...until I found out he was a she. Damn it Kishimoto, why can't females be as good as Haku?

If you give Hinata a stare. You will find your future wife.

While tsunade isn't the epitome of female development.(korra is, get at me) she's the best(sadly) this series has to offer. Everyone else is cookie cutter.
