I don't think current Naruto is smart, he was about to use chakra jutsu against Momoshiki until Borat stopped him. Naruto has a type of battle intelligence where he use's shadow clone spam, trasnformation jutsu etc to trick his opponents. Imo transformation jutsu etc shouldn't work on elite opponents but plot demands Naruto's opponents fall for an E rank Jutsu. Hashirama on the other hand is overall intelligent and has battlesmarts to boot.

What was it that BZ said about sasuke and the sharingan? Something about it just being a tool and the strength of it depended on the user, or something like that. I see the same thing for shadow clones and transformations. It may be an E tank jutsu, but narutos unique thinking is what allowed it to be so effective, even against elite opponents

No, not really Naruto doesn't use it strategically the advantage he has is his opponent's can't see through it. No matter how skillful a person is against top tiers that falls into second rate writing Naruto can't change his smell, chakra nature etc. Take Kaguya she couldn't even see through it with a Kekkei Mora Byakugan or Rinne Sharingan.

Naruto does have the edge of shadow clone spam which he employs effectively. The only truly strategic users of the scj are Kakashi and Itachi, Sarada used it once against Buntan. None of them possess the luxury of spamming and or vast chakra reserves. Having said that he does use them to trick his opponents at times.

They see chakra on a higher level and any alterations in it, Naruto can't change his chakra nature to Sasuke's or emit the chakra of the yin seal. This is how they restrict the dojutsu(for him even against pain). Generally top level ninja should have a mechansim to tell the fake apart from the real otherwise it would make them incapable.

I agree with you it was a pointless Borat moment but they portrayed Naruto as stupid. That is after Naruto was having his chakra extracted by Momo and he knows it's(chakra absorbtion) is a well known power. I don't remember if he saw Momo absorb Shikamaru's jutsu if he did that would only make it worse. It's nkt entirely out of character for Naruto though he isn't meant to be intelligent, he's had many dense moments.

Ps. I agree Borat had no point being in that fight and the PIS don't get me started.

Naruto has the ability to learn more with C O A T as an adult while Hashi doesn't have that..

But in the overall I'd say Hashi.. He did help with creating the current shinobi system after all, with friends of course but that was pretty smart an stopped a bunch of wars an young children from dying by doin so..

Okay, I think I get what you mean. Maybe cause it’s such a useless jutsu it just blindsides these powerful opponents cause no one ever bothers to use it against them? Almost playing into their conceitment, like “I’m so powerful only the strongest will fight me” like how pain thought he was god and madara thought he was invincible (even though he kinda was), so when naruto busts out this e rank jutsu against s rank shinobi, no one ever sees it coming because they’re never looking for it

Hashirama is smarter. Even Tobirama notes that he found Teen Naruto dumber than his brother. It's not even as though Hashirama is truly dumb though, he's just eccentric in regards to personality & mentality. Though I don't recall Hashirama ever pulling off a clever trick while we have numerous examples of Naruto doing so.

Madara tricked the 5 Kage into believing they killed him, when in reality it was a Mokuton Clone, this lead to the Kage letting their guards down. Madara can even tell a shadow clone and a real user in the war.

Hashirama was able to trick Madara by using a Mokuton clone, which allowed to do a surprise attack at him.

Sarada is the only Uchiha to use transformation + sharingan genjutsu which is impressive. Heck imagine Sarada using Shadow Clone and Sharingan to learn jutsu, she would be a master in no time.

Hashirama has genjutsu, while Naruto lack genjutsu at all. Only someone with great intelligence can be a genjutsu type as stated by Jiraiya who are smart normally.

Naruto has battle smarts, that was proven all along the manga, but if we speak in a general sense, he's dumber than Hashirama. At any rate, he probably won't live long enough to compare them both in age, but as far as we have seen, Hashirama seemed smarter.
