He mastered the Rinnegan? Without even training? I can understand pulling off some jutsu, but at leat try to be rational.

He also knows the Rasengan from Naruto, but that doesn't mean he uses it.

He didn't need training to master the EMS. So yes, he could have mastered the Rinnegan.

But he can use the Rasengan. It's just plot restrictions.

EMS was not too different from Mangekyo, which he discovered its abilities one by one. And even then, it still took a push for him to discover the legged Susanoo .Same can very easily be said for RInnegan.

Plot saved Sasuke all the times against Naruto. Even Naruto gave Sasuke mercy time and time again.
