When I was a kid, I was always at church. That was what my grandma wanted me to do. She is a die hard Mormon [don't even start with the jokes], and I always went with her because of the bread, water, and singing. I actually had no idea what going to church was supposed to mean. But I do remember all the people there only being "clicky" with other Mormons. They never did like my Dad when he came, as he was Catholic, and really ignored him. My Mom and Grandma were the only ones to talk to him there, which is sad because my Dad is a really cool guy.

Anyways. During my years on this site, I noticed Atheists [Sorry if this is a bad term. I know there is something else that most like to be called but cannot think of it.]are usually more accepting of your religion. Every time I talk to someone who doesn't believe in God, about God, they don't try to force me to turn Atheist but they do tell me what they believe and we usually have a cool discussion. Of course, there are always some that try to belittle me due to believing in God, but most don't.

On the other hand, when I talk to other religious members of this site, they try to point out how wrong I am about religion, and about how they are superior, etc. Still, this does not apply to all religious members, so please do not feel offended. This is only a select few.

I was just wondering if you agree with my observation, and please keep this thread clean of any hate. I want a nice, easy going discussion.

Thanks! :bye:

As a religious person the only reason I would try to "force" someone to try to believe what I believe is because I genuinely believe what I do to be true, meaning people who don't are in trouble, and I don't want them to suffer or anything.

Get what I'm sayin?

Well we just don't give a shit really .-.. I let people believe what people want. Who am I to care? Such a broad term as there are different types of Atheism though.

Religious people get mad or upset when their religion is questioned because they know deep down there is no logical reasoning behind their beliefs.

I find that most people don't "force" their religion on you. They genuinely believe they're gonna save your life from eternal torture or non-existence. Most people are just so stuck in their ways, it seems annoying.

I believe it is up to the particular person. I've known Atheists and Religious people who have been on both sides of the spectrum.

I've noticed that religious people don't try to disprove other religions as much as religious people and atheists try to disprove each other.

Please edit this. I want to keep this thread from starting a flame fest, which will make Ira pissed at me since she had to close a thread I started.

This is pretty much how I feel summed up.

I'm only building off on what you said here:

I am a proud Atheist, and yes, most of are generally open to hearing others beliefs. Granted, we won't change our point of view of the world, but it's nice to hear how others see things. In my area, Atheists, are fine with religious people. That is ... until they try to shove their beliefs down our throats. Then even the nicest ones get irate.

religion is for people who are trying to run from "real life" and that is cowardly or just no reason. I hate it. Be smart.

Forcing isn't the word because this is the internet and nobody on NB can force someone to do something. They do it by choice. I'll love to preach about Jesus Christ to atheists but some of them convert and most of them do not. Some try to mix religion with science

But anyways I would always try to convert someone to Christianity but if they don't want to that's alright. But when thry need me to help them I'll always be there

I never knew that you were Atheist! That is cool.

I cannot believe I put that in there. Touché.

This is un-called for.

imo there are on both sides people who try to force u believe what they believe. but history has proven that the religious ones are more violent...that the probability that a religious guy tries to convert you is far higher then the not religious...there were (and still are up to today even in first world countries) people who just cant stand the fact that i dont believe in what they do...
