When Itachi creates a jutsu. We shall talk about their intelligent. Minato knew how to counter it on spot. Also, If you had paid attention.. he had no clue he would be brought back, the KA was for Sasuke. And Sasuke went the opposite of what he predicted ;]

And you people might be forgetting about Transcription Seal: Amaterasu
Yes, he made a jutsu just for Sasuke/His plan, which means he's skilled in Fuinjutsu for doing so

Mostly because Itachi has much more intelligence feats that minato has...

All minato really has is him looking at tobi's s/t jutsu and figuring out that he becomes physical to attack etc... Something many other ninjas have figured out as well.. Itachi has feats just like that when he saw chibaku tensei and automatically broke down the jutsu into how it works AND found its weakness...

Not only book wise is Itachi smart, But he understands people like no other.. So much so that he caused Kabuto to outright think he was a Sensor.. untill kabuto realized he can just read people and predict their movements...

i can go on and on, Bu minato is far from the only person who has created jutsu in this manga.. creating something doesn't make you a genius.. Deidara is a perfect example of that..he made one of the most deadliest jutsu in the manga.. but...yea..

Amaterasu seal.. hmm. Sharingan power.. handed to him.

3rd Kazekage, Minato, Hashirama, Tobirama, Saruotobi, Madara, Shikaku.. all are more intelligent then Itachi. o-o. Understanding people...... he resembled kabuto... lmao. So of course he understood him. But did he understand his own brother? no.

Deidara is smart.. But his overall feats aren't that smart. Minato was specifically called a GENIUS.

"Itachi has more feats then Minato".. whose had more screen time?. Itachi.. so of course. The jutsu he created went from a normal damaging tech to a OP tech. =]. And he was a genius because he created by observing the bijuu bomb.
Also, the brains to do what he did in the sealing processes. Seal over seals.. and then more complicated seals. Itachi can pull that off? no.

Minato would be more intelligent. He has a faster mind and tactical combat knowledge (positioning, deception, etc)

I guess it's a hard one as they are both some of the most outstanding ninjas out there.

I think i go with Minato only because he was just your regular ninja, nothing was handed to him, he did it all on his own, and if you haven't figured it out yet i'm talking about Itachi's sharingan. I agree that in the end the sharingan is just a tool and it depends on the user, but still it's something that can't be overlooked.

And another deciding factor in my opinion is their ability to make a long term plan, and think many steps ahead... and here i'm not talking about battle (we all know they are both very good at this) but rather their plans for Naruto and Sasuke. And i guess the manga speaks for itself who did a better job here, seeing how Sasuke is the total opposite of what Itachi wanted while Naruto is doing exactly what his father hoped, he managed to tame the kiuby and right know he is using its power to defeat Tobi, just like Minato predicted. But in this matter the ability to go past your feelings, and do what is wright for the better good plays an important part, so it's questionable.
