I never thought about it until now, but you're right. The way Zoro is so stern with Luffy is reminiscent of Ace being stern to Luffy, and both of them had notable moments where they put their lives at risk(with Ace losing his) to protect Luffy. Sabo and Sanji are both of noble blood that abandoned their families, have blonde hair, and have fire-related abilities, and are much more relaxed with Luffy(until it comes to food).

Define "best friend". And then just look at the way everyone behaves with each other not just Luffy. They all are best friends of each other. Luffy goes to the extent of his limits to save his friend. (Robin, Sanji, Nami).
They all are best friends thats why they are free to speak anything about themselves to each other. Luffy trusts everyone and that trust can only be developed for a best friend only. Though this is a manga and looks very much idealistic to us. So u dare not tackle my comment with a realistic reason.

People mistake loyalty with friendship. Zoro is the most loyal and dedicated to the crew and Luffy. While Usopp and Luffy has the best friendship factor mentions here.
