Last time a checked, Itachi was basically a hero for Konoha..

he betrayed them twice and attacked their military in cold blood

itachi is half-responsible for the murders of 6 people, tried to kill kakashi, tortured a 7 year old boy into a mentally shattered shell, responsible for jiraiya's death due to his selfish inactions and even tried to enslave sasuke against his will.
