Yeah he's not but he's the closest thing to a first mate in the Strawhats crew. Shiliew isn't officially BB's vice-captain but neither is Zoro. Saying that he's the "Zoro" of the BB pirates means that he's the "unofficial vice-captain/closest thing to a vice captain" of the BB pirates.

Shiliew seems to be stronger than everyone except BB so i think he would be the first mate.

In onepiece almost every swordsmen is the vice captain.

If the captain is the swordsmen, then their vice captain is a foot style fighter. (Like WB)

Let's list all the known First mates of One Piece that clearly support this list:

* Mohji (whip)
* Ben Backman (gun)
* Okome (not a sword)
* Boo (Bats)
* Jango (rings)
* Sarkies (knifes)
* Rayleigh (Sword)

I see what you mean, from all then known First mates 1 uses a sword, that's a pretty compelling case you got there.

And that other fact about the FM being a foot fighter ?? (Marco ?) when the captain is a swordsman (WB had a Bisento but whatever) also doesn't fly. Also because Marco wasn't the First mate. How would that work in divisions anyway

Well technically BB doesn't have a first mate. I just think Shiliew will end up being the vice-captain. For now he isn't though. I believe at some point the strawhats will officially make Zoro the vice-captain (when Luffy gets captured or something like that Zoro will lead the strawhats temporarily).

So i prefer calling Shiliew the "Zoro" of BB pirates. Not the vice-captain but soon to be.

So that's why I posted almost every crew, any relevant crew usually follow these cognitive rules.

Shanks only has one first mate so what are Beckmann AND Yassop doing here both ? It's already confirmed that Beckmann is the Firstmate and that he uses guns. Yassop is irrelevant.

If there's to be someone as FM on BB crew, it would obviously be the person that BB trust the most and was with him the longest.

Rayleigh is the only 1st mate that we have seen using a sword.

Benn beckman has been shown using his gun as his primary weapon most likely due to the situation he was in or simply its his favorite weapon of choice. (I've never seen him with another weapon)

Marco is a 1st division captain and they have never stated that he's 1st mate. Maybe 1st division captain means 1st mate but like I said, never stated.
