Going by that I asume you haven't even watched the anime or read the manga, which means you probably can't judge Sumire to compare her with Hinata in a fair comparision.

And yes part 1/2 Hinata is pairing fodder. Her drive, her passion and every screentime she got was connected to Naruto. Don't get me started how she tried to rescue her husband twice and got stomped while trying so. -> pairing fodder.

She has no role/purpose outside of being Naruto's wife and the mother of his kids.

99% of the cast is pairing fodder though so I never said it's something negative.

Sumire has shown great potential early on and will likely continue to do so. On the other hand part 1 Hinata didn't have much going for her not that changed in part 2.

If hinata could get to her she could gentle fist her for the win, she kept up with neji, the question would be how would she do against the little nue summoning?

Right so did majority of the characters. They thought of Naruto and claimed he was there hope. Hinata was the first one to acknowledge him. I guess by your logic anyone who worships Naruto is a pairing fodder. Nice, nice, keep going. Still don't get what this has to do with this chick though? You really show how much you know of her character when you say she has no role or purpose outside of Naruto. I mean lets forget she actually has a family that has a cast system. Lets forget she is told she is not good enough by her father and her sister is more talented. What really do you know of Hinata that you are spewing this garbage? All your doing is being biased over one character while supporting another. If you really ment what you said by acknowledging Sumire may end up being a pairing fodder. Than you wouldn't really care if Hinata was one right? Let me make it clear nearly every female character in this series ended up supporting there children instead of having lives outside of there family. You cannot sit there and claim one is better than the other just because one ended up supporting there family. When you have no evidence proving that the other will not end up the same. Even if we go by your logic and say Part 1 Hinata was a pairing fodder. Well I will than ask you how? She was not with Naruto supporting his family she was with her team mates doing missions. I assume this is character wise and Hinata edges it for me if that's the case. Her backstory (low self esteem, no confidence, aversion to violence) especially in the setting she was written/created in was unique to me and in conjunction with her fight against Neji, it made her one of the characters that stood above the rest for me.

It seemed like nothing, but her remark to incite Neji at the end is not something that comes easy with a personality like hers. Absolutely not easy at all. That was extreme character development imo and i was looking forward to more as the manga progressed (same with Lee) but well.. Kishi.

I completed the Nue arc in the anime and Sumire's backstory has been reused many times in numerous media i've come across... and she really was just there character wise for me.
