I think Hinata is a decent character but I have to say that Sumire is what Hinata should've been from the beginning to end.

Sumire got a more impactful backstory, which got better explaination thanks for her story being tied into the Nue development rather than just being some side information on Naruto and Hinata's fights against Neji. The growth and the leftover impact to her character AFTER the incident also was more natural and shown.

Power wise Sumire is far stronger than Hinata and thanks to the Nue and backstory she also got some great amount of potential for the future. So my vote goes to Sumire. Still love Hinata though.

Sumire, and this is coming from a fan of Hinata.

I'd say that in general, both Sarada and Sumire are better than both Sakura and Hinata. Neither of them are just cheerleaders for some guy, nor are either of them really annoying. I like Hinata, but her whole character revolved around Naruto. Sarada and Sumire are not like that. They are both strong in their own rights and have their own goals/paths and character development.
