People say that Gai is the better teacher when only one has worked out well, Tenten isn't great, Neji was a brat and Lee was the only one to learn anything.

Kakashi set the ball rolling for their development and taught them that friends are the most important value, and Naruto has took that to heart and it started to shape who he is now.
