Who is a better protagonist: Luffy or Goku?

So this thread was inspired by the other thread of naruto vs ichigo, who was the better protagonist so tell me who you think is the better protagonist here and more importantly why?
That´s how we can have a good discussion, bring arguments that support your statement, no one will care for your statement without a valid argument to back it up!

Both different, both had completely different roles in there anime(s).
Can't really compare them in my eyes.

I find Luffy to be a better protagonist.

But if we look from an Anime/Manga-only point of view, then Goku is the perfect stereotypical hero.

Both Luffy and Goku are great protagnists to me. But I think Goku is better. He's more smarter, he fights for something bigger and he's got a better personality. Luffy punched a girl (Vivi), I don't think Goku would ever do that even if he was tryin' to smack some sense into her

I think him punching a vivi only add to his more child-like personality because he treats everyone as equals, guys aswell as girls, isn´t that what you girls want?
Luffy is a unique character and that´s what i like about him, he doesn´t seem to have much depth at first sight but you´ll see he´s very smart and does things for a good reason.

As do i because unlike goku, luffy doesn´t ignore his friends as selfishly as goku does, he had to make a big decision of either getting back with his friends to sail the new world or to save his brother and then get back with his friends.
He chose ace and later he realized that they all needed to grow stonger to get to the new world so he extended the 3days to 2 years and it wasn´t selfish at all, he did the best thing for him and the others, granted he couldn´t be there to protect them but he still acted like a true captain aswell as staying true to his character, Luffy in that regard far surpasses goku and that´s why i like him more then Goku, don´t get me wrong, i LOVE goku, just luffy more.

Luffy isn't striving for the greater good. Even though thats what he ends up doing, thats never his plan. Luffys only interest is his crew, and becoming the Pirate King, the person who has the most freedom in the world. He isn't trying to save the world from some villain or anything.
When you say "protagonist" I think of "hero". Goku is the better hero.
But I like Luffy as the leading role of a series, because he is so unpredictable, which makes the story very unpredictable.

They are more or less the same thing. Imagine this if goku was a pirate with luffy's powers he would act exactly the same way and vie versa.

Luffy is an Anti-hero but the things he does is something that he does because he wants to protect what´s good and lately in the Fishman island arc, Luffy started to act more like Goku "i want to protect everyone" which is what he tried to stop Vivi from doing back in Alabasta.
It´s just their different series has different roles, if there ever came a person in One piece that wanted to wreck the world, Luffy would want to stop him despite being an Anti-hero he would do it for the maintainance of the world, same goes for Goku so goku isn´t exactly doing things for the greater good any different then Luffy does.
What i´m trying to say is that Luffy and Goku aren´t different in the hero aspect, Goku just shows it alot more.
So who´s the better "protagonist" which IMO means main character?
