Gaara i think he thought his mother didn't love him and his father tried to kill him the whole village hated him for a reason he didn't know and he had no friend at all to help him
As for naruto the village hated him to but he never knew his parents so he did't know if they loved or hated him
and he had frends so gaara had a more painfull life then naruto

Gaara. His own father tried to kill him on numerous occasions, his mother considered him to be the embodiment of her revenge on the village, there was no one that sympathised with him like Iruka did for Naruto. He caved in under pressure and wandered over to the dark side.

That mother thing was proven to be false, but Gaara still perceived it that way.

Poor lad. I'd say Gaara probably had it the toughest in this series :(

Personally, I'd have to say Gaara. Although he and Naruto have similarities regarding their past, unlike Naruto however, he never had a chance to meet his mother who loved him dearly. Naruto was blessed enough to have had his father make it possible so that both could meet him, unlike Gaara. Not to mention the hate he had recieved from his own father as well, trying to get rid of him countless times.

Gaara also had the terrible encounter of watching a person, who he loved dearly and was close to his heart, die by his own hands because deep down inside, his uncle really did not care for him to begin with. The only person in his miserable life Gaara thought he could count on was nothing more but a mere lie. Gaara also didn't have the privilege of having friends as early on as Naruto had, making him wander in 'darkness' for years. Personally, considering all that Gaara had gone through, staring with to be picked on his whole life, to watching a person who you thought loved you die by your own hands, and then practically dying from the one-tails taken out of him himself, I say I am glad he is where he is coming so far.

Did Naruto ever had his dad tried to kill him six times? Did Naruto have sleepless nights? Did Naruto struggles as much to obtain friends? Yeah, Gaara had it worse.

Gaara was loved by only one person, who was even dead. Now, he is loved by anyone, because he is such a badass character, so I choose Gaara. His childhood was awful, mainly because of his Sand skills. Naruto didn't had such a skills, even though he was said to be hating the villagers at the time.

I don't think either of them had it worse. I think it's just that each jinchuukiri dealt with his own pain differently.

Kind Kage who did what for him? besides providing the food. IF GAARA HAD CHOSEN HE COULD'VE BEEN A GREAT NINJA FROM THE START...... He in realty did not have the will. Your comparing a guy who was the son of the Kazekage, had a family for him, brother and sister there to support him.. but CHOSE to keep them cut off..... While Naruto who had noone for him, had to survive on his own.. kept going even with all the struggles.
