There's actually an Image made by Pros in which Kakashis mask was removed, I mean by shadows, lines and stuff Kakashis mask was removed and you can clearly see a face, I will try to find it.

Did he not have that mask so people wouldn't mistake him for his father? Chiyo attacked him because she thought he was his father though she could still see the resemblance with his mask on still. I always thought that was the reason for it.
